Many people love the holiday season, but sometimes living in Oklahoma can make the holidays…depressing. Oklahoma isn’t the most jolly state, so it can be hard to find fun things to do during the Christmas season. So in honor of the beginning of December, I compiled a list of things to do in Oklahoma that will get the Christmas spirit rolling.
#1: The Holiday Pop-Up Shops
Every holiday season a handful of local vendors and stores pitch tents in Midtown OKC for the Holiday Pop-Up Shops. The shops are open Friday and Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm up until December 20th. There are also food trucks where you can grab a snack to get some shopping fuel. Whether it’s to just browse around or do some serious Christmas shopping, these shops are a unique place to go with friends, family or even your dog to get into the holiday spirit.
#2: Nichols Hills Christmas Lights
One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is go to rich neighborhoods and look at the houses decked out in Christmas lights that probably cost more than my newspaper sponsor’s monthly salary. The best place to do this is Nichols Hills. The lights are always gorgeous, and it’s in the perfect location to make a fun evening out of it. Grab a group of friends, go to dinner somewhere downtown and drive around the neighborhood looking at the dramatic light displays for a truly festive time.
#3: Devon Ice Rink
Many Edmond folk love the Mitch Park Ice Rink, but honestly, it’s a bit lackluster. The space is crowded, and it is hard to skate around the masses of middle schoolers making TikToks. The Devon Ice Rink, on the other hand, is spacious and beautiful. This rink gets you into the holiday spirit with all the pretty lights and the smell of hot cocoa in the air. This is a perfect holiday date night spot that’ll create the most cheerful memories.
#4: North Pole City
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step right into Santa’s workshop? If you have, North Pole City is worth visiting. With over 20,000 square feet of holiday decorations, you are sure to have a merry time here. The building is decked out in every Christmas decoration imaginable, so if you need some decor for yourself or maybe as a gift—I would definitely check out this store. It is also just a fun place to walk around and look at all the green and red trinkets, even if you aren’t looking to buy anything.
#5: Katiebug’s Sips and Sweets
The best hot cocoa in town and the most delicious baked goods, are served at Katiebug’s Sips and Sweets. This adorable mother-and-daughter-owned establishment offers the most tasty holiday treats with an atmosphere of Pinterest-worthy holiday decorations. They rotate their menu weekly, so you are guaranteed a wide selection of snacks such as cookies, cakes, fudge and more. Their hot cocoa has the perfect amount of chocolate flavor, and you can even add on a homemade marshmallow for some extra cheer. This is the perfect place to grab a bite and take some festive pictures.
#6: Coca-Cola’s Classic Christmas
The newest addition to Christmas activities in OKC is Coca-Cola’s Classic Christmas. For the first time, Remington Park is hosting Classic Christmas—a huge light experience containing ice skating, a dance floor, Santa Claus himself and much more. This extravaganza contains 55,000 square feet of lights to walk through and guarantees you a jolly time.
I hope this list will help you have the best winter filled with Christmas cheer. If this list inspires you to visit any of these places—snap a pic and send it to us on Instagram (@enhs_newspaper). We would love to see you guys having the happiest holidays with the help of our ideas, and I hope you have a holly (haha) jolly christmas!
