Sophomore Wyatt Knol is in his second year of his high school varsity football career, and he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. His love of the game all started at a young age when he would play catch with his dad.
It’s fair to say that Wyatt has grown since his early days of playing catch with his dad in his backyard. The 16-year-old is already 6 feet and 6 inches tall and still growing.
Starting on the varsity team as a freshman is very uncommon—but Wyatt did it, and he made it look easy. If you attended any football games last year or this season, you probably saw him playing left tackle as number 77.
Over the past two years, Wyatt has put in the work to keep his spot on varsity, and his hard work has not gone unnoticed.
“After my freshman season, I received a Division-I offer from the University of Texas at El Paso,” said Wyatt.
Despite already earning an offer from UTEP, he dreams of playing for the University of Oklahoma.
Wyatt grew up watching OU football games with his family. These moments have stuck with Wyatt his whole life, leading to the passion he has for football.
Wyatt grew up idolizing the great players on the OU team, but his biggest role model is his dad. He continues to look up to him each day and appreciates his support. Even though he and his dad have the occasional arguments or differences, his dad continues to push him to be his best and helps him through his mistakes.
“Even through the ups and downs, [my dad] has always been there to support me and watch me play,” said Wyatt.
Wyatt spends a lot of his time at practice and in the weight room at Edmond North, but he always makes time for his friends.
He enjoys going to dinner with the rest of the Edmond North offensive line, who have become like an extended family. High school can be a big challenge for many students, but for Wyatt, being with his football family makes school less intimidating and more fun.
Wyatt’s advice to incoming freshmen is “to always work hard inside and outside of school. Push [yourselves] as hard as possible. Pushing yourself can get you into places you never imagined.
