Olivia Newberry is a senior at Edmond North.
Olivia is class president for her senior year. One of her priorities is selflessness—she is always looking for ways to help people.
“My biggest goal in life is to be someone who will help and love everybody. I have grown up in a household where selflessness was one of the most important ideals. In everything I do, I try to look for opportunities to help those around me.”
When Olivia first started at Edmond North, she had a tough time. She had bad anxiety that included panic attacks.
“My freshman year, I experienced my first-ever panic attack. It was one of the most terrifying things I had ever gone through, and it completely shifted my life. I soon found out I struggle with anxiety… I was so unsure of how to move forward, but I refused to let the anxiety I faced turn me into a person who was afraid to live.”
Learning to not take herself too seriously was key in helping Olivia overcome her anxiety.
“…if you can learn to laugh about it, nothing is truly that embarrassing.”
Friendship made a difference in Olivia’s life during those hard times. Cary Dorflinger was a friend and role model for Olivia and helped her become who she is today.
“Cary was the epitome of joy during my freshman and sophomore years at North. She constantly went out of her way to put a smile on my face and to make sure I was ok. From random Sonic drinks to many study sessions, Cary was always there. I still consider Cary one of my closest friends and biggest mentors. I pray I have been that person to someone during my time at North.”
Olivia wants to use her senior year as class president to impact other students in the same way she was impacted by Cary.
“I believe the most important thing we can do as individuals is make the people around us feel loved, supported and valued in everything they do, so my prayer is that by the end of this year, the entire class of 2026 will know that no matter what, I will ALWAYS be in their corner, cheering them on.”
