Jeff Hock is Edmond North’s Web Design teacher, head football coach for the freshman team, and assistant girl’s soccer coach. A man of many trades, he is also a Facebook micro-celebrity. His novel-like reviews of Hallmark movies bring lots of attention to his page.
Even though Hock is not your average rom-com consumer, his wife, Alicia Hock, inspired the tradition.
“My wife enjoys them and so I watch them with her to repay her for all the nights she spends watching sports,” details Coach Hock.
The couple’s quality time watching Christmas rom-coms sparked the interest of his friend, Eddie Wright.
“My buddy, Eddie Wright, who is the District AD (Athletic Director) for Oklahoma City Public Schools, also loves these movies so we started squaring off on social media to see who could find the best one. Needless to say, we both have quite the following on Facebook,” boasts Hock.
Reviews you can trust
“There are hundreds of Hallmark-style Christmas movies. Some are great. Some are tolerable. And some are unwatchable. So we (Eddie and myself) felt that it is important to help guide people to the great movies and away from the bad ones.” explains Hock.
Due to Hock’s private Facebook page, his reviews are hidden from the general public. Fortunately, anyone can access his master list here: Trademarked Christmas Tree Ranking System.
He has 73 current ratings, each on a scale of one to five Christmas trees (one being the worst, five being the best), the year he reviewed it, the location it was filmed and its “star power”— well-known actors in the film.
Hock’s extensive movie reviews are not only helpful, but they also provide him with an enjoyable creative outlet.
“I’ve never been afraid to share my opinions. I love to write creatively, but not like stories or essays. I like to write in a way that offers humor and opinions and perspectives. These holiday movie reviews allow me to do that,” shares Hock.
Hock’s friend, Wright, also has an impressive catalog of holiday movie reviews. However, he admits, “I still can’t quite match the way Coach Hock draws in an audience. He truly is the G.O.A.T. of holiday movie reviews.”
Thank you Coach Hock for sharing your Hallmark movie expertise. Let us know your favorite holiday rom-coms in the comments!
