If you’re like me and are chronically online, you have probably heard the word “demure.” This word has recently taken social media by storm, due to TikToker Jools Lebron (@joolieannie). She made a TikTok talking about how to be “demure” at work, and the video quickly blew up.
The video is sitting at 4.7 million likes, the reason this video has a mass amount of likes is because of the creators simple yet funny commentary. In the TikTok she says how “demure and mindful” it is that she shows up to work with “no green cut crease” (an extravagant eye-shadow look).
Believe it or not, “demure” actually means modest.
The TikTok trend has branched off into a series of silly videos made by both the original creator and now various other people on the app, all of which show something they do that would be considered “demure”. I myself have even joined the trend; I made a video with my brother saying how we were demure since we ordered a small coffee instead of an extra-large.
Now, for some people this TikTok trend may be a tad bit confusing which is understandable. But, I am here to make it more clear for you. In this article I went around the school and decided what was “demure” or not and why.
#1- The Will Rogers painting
Not “demure” at ALL. This thing is not classy, mindful or modest. Now, don’t get me wrong, the artist that made this is very talented, but they put it in the worst place possible.
Tell me why every time I’m making my way to the STEM building I look up and see Will Rogers looming over me. There have also been various times where I am at the school late at night for rehearsals and I look at that painting, and I swear his eyes are staring into my soul. Therefore, I deem this painting to be not “demure.”
#2- The Edmond North Husky statue
The husky statue is not only a great representative of our school mascot, but it is also a great location to meet your friends if you want to walk in the hallways together. Some students even sit next to it during lunch to have a very “mindful” dining experience. For these reasons, I consider the husky statue “demure.”
#3- The new Breezeway
This one is a little more complicated to decide because, yes, it is a very nice addition to the school, and it looks very “classy,” so it should be demure. But, since it took so unbelievably long to build, and every day last year I had to commute through the outdoors just to get into the Freshman Academy—I deem it not “demure.”
#4- The Siberian Gym
This one could be debatable, but in my opinion I would say it’s “demure”. The gym does a good job of fitting the entire school body, and all of its remodels have made it pretty “mindful”. The gym may be under construction for 75% of the year, but for the times when it is open, I say it’s “demure!”
#5- The Library
The Library is one of the older things on this list, but that does not mean it’s anything short of “demure”. The fact that they sell coffee everyday is so “cutesy,” and it is always a very comforting environment. Very, very “classy” and very “demure!”
Overall I would say our school is very “mindful and demure.” I hope this list gave you a better understanding of the trend, or maybe it confused you even more. Whichever one it may be, I still hope you found this article “demure.” Remember to be “cutesy, mindful, classy, modest, demure” and show your Husky PRIDE!
