Out of the many great swimmers at Edmond North, Senior Garrett Levendofsky has proved himself to be outstanding.
Levendofsky is from Oklahoma where he started club swimming when he was just six years old.
“My sister joined the club, and I was like, ‘I gotta be here anyway for her practices, so I might as well swim too,’ and that’s what got me into it,” said Levendofsky.
Levendofsky trains like a professional swimmer with precision and dedication. He trains nearly nine times a week, doing two high school practices and eight club practices. For a typical day, he’ll do an early morning practice and one after school on certain days.
For his diet, he keeps it clean and simple. Swimmers need a consistent diet to stay in shape because their sport requires a lot of strength and endurance to swim at fast speeds, and Levendofsky does it just right.
“I eat the same lunch every day: sandwich, yogurt and other nutritional foods,” Levendosfky explains.
Levendofsky has been competing for the North swim team since he started in his freshman year. He has always been a great swimmer, placing in almost every competition he’s participated in.
In last year’s swim season, Levendofsky won three gold medals at the state meet. The three events Levendofsky won were the 400 Freestyle Relay, the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Individual Medley. He also came second in the 100 Freestyle race behind his teammate Riley Conway.
The 200 Freestyle Relay was an impressive race for Levendofsky and his teammates. Not only did they win the race, they also beat the school record time. Their finishing time was 1:25:48.
So far this year, Levendofsky has placed first in the freestyle at every meet. The team got 1st at the Springteenth Meet, and he earned 4 gold medals.
With college offers in mind, Levendofsky is working to close out his last season with a spectacular performance. He says that his swimming improves under more pressure, so everyone is excited to see how he will finish at the state tournament this upcoming Spring.
