Oliver White is a junior at Edmond North and was elected Sophomore Student of the Year last spring.
White has had to overcome anxiety. In middle school, he would get panic attacks when he tried to talk to people that he didn’t know.
He was able to grow as a person by connecting with God and focusing on education, helping him become an admired student at Edmond North. He now can strike up a conversation with a stranger and joke around with anyone who talks to him, easily making everyone feel comfortable around him.
Oliver expressed that he was impacted by his violin teacher. She gave him a passion for playing violin that he would never have had without her help. After finding interest in violin, he joined North’s Orchestra and still plays to this day.
He has influenced students in BASIC (a leadership workshop for STUCO). He made sure everyone felt appreciated and included, encouraging them in their own passions. At the end of the week, they all gave him letters saying how he made them feel special. Not only did he help those students raise their self-esteem, but also by receiving those letters from the students, it gave him a feeling of self-worth and accomplishment.
We need more people like Oliver in this world. People like him put the good into the world instead of taking from it.
Give a thumbs up if you love Oliver.
