Junior Madden Rutherford placed third at the Deer Creek Friendly Meet in the Junior and Senior Boys Division. Not only did Rutherford earn his way to the podium, he also broke the school record for the two-mile race.
“Even as a junior, Madden is top of the class,” says Coach Andrew Pletan. “Next year, Madden is going to be one of the top runners in the state.”
Breaking the record made Rutherford feel good and motivated him to “want to break even more records.”
He ran a nine-minute and forty-nine-second 2-mile run. Rutherford finished only eight-seconds behind the person in second.
Rutherford is part of Edmond North’s Boys’ Varsity Cross Country team, and he trains hard to keep it that way.
“I run twice a day on most days, and longer runs really help boost my endurance,” Rutherford says about his training.
Rutherford is putting in the work and effort every day as he prepares to finish his season at the state meet in November.
“He can show everyone how hard he’s been working and how fast he can run, so as we go into the end of the season it’ll be exciting to see what he does,” Pletan says.
